A 'Bass drum' and probably the metal ring of a drum rim... a slow rythm starts... add a string layer and vocals... Shehnai starts as if on cue, and... just when you get comfortable with the melody, almost on a half beat Rahman oozes out...
Something about Rahman, he just sounds too damned patriotic...

coincidence! was listening to swades songs this weekend... the shehnai is always there in indian mangal kaaryas... not without reason :) it automatically gives us the auspicious feeling, na...?
of course... rehman + shehnai is like the icing on the cake...

personally, i dont like the shehnai sound much... :) even here i guess sax would have sounded much much better... but then... its Rahman... so he has to get shehnai when the music is Indian...! thts the way he works...
and... spell it Rahman... rather than Rehman... u know.. i am almost as obssesed with this as the 'h' in my name...! ;)
and for anything else too... :)
